  1. Although Charles Kynard led a date for Pacific Jazz in the early '60s and five albums for Prestige from , he never really became famous. A fine organist in the style of Jimmy Smith, Kynard could always groove and chug along with the best of them. This Prestige date (reissued on an LP in the Original Jazz Classics series but not yet on CD) matches Kynard with an interesting cast of 8/
  2. Great twofer of 2 fine Kynard releases, "Reelin With The Feelin' "(Charles Kynard organ, Wilton Felder tenor, Joe Pass guitar,Carol Kaye bass, Paul Humphrey Drums) & "Wa-Tu-Wa-Zui" (Charles Kynard organ, Rusty Brant tenor, Virgil Jones trumpet, Melvin Sparks guitar, Jimmy Lewis bass, Idris Muhammad & Bernard Purdie drums) Reelin may be Kynards most well known release, probably is my favorite 5/5(2).

  4. Organ, electric bass. Charles Kynard is an organist whose jazz-funk leanings rival his predecessors and peers, though not eclipsing them. Solid, though never flashy. He also plays electric bass. Kynard's Read Full Biography. Overview ↓ Biography ↓ Discography ↓ Songs ↓.
  5. Aug 21,  · After seeing names like Charles Kynard, Blue Mitchell and Mike Longo, I guess there should be more soul jazz with a strong groove, but most of these records are pretty obscure. For many of these albums I could hardly find a clip or two on Youtube. I was truly impressed by The Night Blooming Jazzmen - two clips on Youtube from the album just.
  6. An ultra-hip album from organist Charles Kynard – one of his earliest outings as a leader for Prestige, and a set that's much more in the Groove Holmes mode than some of his later, funkier sides! The setting here is quite lean – a trio that features the wonderful Cal Green on guitar – playing here with a hard, off-kilter sound that sounds a lot like George Freeman at the best moments.

  8. A great album from organist Charles Kynard – one of his best that wasn't issued on Prestige! This is one of the funky jazz LPs on Mainstream that really hits a nice groove, with Bob Shad's crisp production dovetailing with Kynard's jazz funk sensibilities just right – not too slick or uptight at all! Kynard's backed here by a nice little LA combo that includes Carol Kaye on bass.
  9. Charles Kynard - Reelin' With The Feelin' (Prestige PR ) Wilton Felder, tenor sax; Charles Kynard, organ; Joe Pass, guitar; Carol Kaye, electric bass; .
